Federal Trade Commission Report on Fraud

According to a 2007 Federal Trade Commission report on fraud, con artists are increasingly using technology to lure their prey. Identity theft accounted for 32% of all fraud complaints filed in 2007 and the following topped the list of crimes and misdemeanors:

  • Identity Theft (32%)
  • Shop-at-home Catalog Sales (8%)
  • Internet Services (5%)
  • Foreign Money Offers (4%)
  • Prizes/Sweepstakes and Lotteries (4%)
